About North Oakland Village

North Oakland Village (NOV) supports quality living in our own homes and neighborhoods as we age. Although we have a central office, the Village is not a cluster of dwellings, it is a community of mutual supportive members and volunteers

The village concept of aging in place provides a cost-effective alternative to retirement communities, and, at the same time, fosters enhanced social networks. NOV, a fee-based and membership-driven organization, offers community programs and services that promote confidence and meet the needs of everyday living.

Some History - How We Started

"In December 2007, I saw a story in the San Francisco Chronicle about the Village concept—a whole new way to support people who want to stay in their own homes as they age—and thought, what a great idea.
I have lived in my home for 31 years and used to jokingly say I’d like to stay here until they carried me out. I thought others must feel the same about aging in their homes"
