Volunteering at North Oakland Village

We welcome generous people willing to help others keep active and stay connected in their community. Contact us if you can donate time -- if it is one hour a month or ten hours a week. No gift of your time is too little or too big!

WHY VOLUNTEER?

Volunteerism is the engine of our non-profit organization. As a Village volunteer, you’ll:

Volunteers are valued members of our community. While providing valuable services to our members volunteers are welcome to become as full a participant as they wish in the community. Many of our programs and activities are open to volunteers and we have some volunteer-only activities.

SERVICE VOLUNTEERS

DRIVERS

We offer local transportation assistance to our members through volunteer drivers who have been screened for safe driving records, insurance coverage and background checks. Approximately 90% of the service requests we receive are for rides.

HANDYPERSON SERVICE

Volunteers will do minor in-home & garden service and repairs.

COMPANIONSHIP

This is a service for members who wish to have a volunteer come to the residence because of comfort or mobility issues. Activities may include reading, playing cards or games, engaging in conversation, or something specific the member has in mind. Companionship activities may occur in the home, in the neighborhood, or both.

TECHNICAL SUPPORT

Volunteers provide assistance with computers, phones, printers

and other electronic devices. Examples include; a new computer needs setting up, new Apps need loading on a phone, Skype is needed to connect with loved ones. Our amazing volunteer community can help our members stay connected and up to date.

PHONE COMPANIONS

Some members like to receive a phone call to check in on them and have a chat. This is a perfect job for a volunteer

OFFICE AND ORGANIZATIONAL SUPPORT

OFFICE
The Office is open Monday through Friday from 10:00am to 2:00pm and there are many tasks in the office we require help with.

COMMITTEES & WORK GROUPS

Committees and Work Groups support the NOV Board of Directors by addressing immediate, near-term and long-term policy and operational issues.

BECOMING A VOLUNTEER WITH NORTH OAKLAND VILLAGE

To obtain an application:

• Print one out from here Volunteer Application Form

• Call the NOV office 510-547-8500 and request an application be mailed.

• Attend our monthly ‘Time to Talk about NOV’ in our office (3rd Friday of each month 10:30 – 11:30am)

Once we have received your application you will be contacted by a NOV staff member and invited to the office.
